Frequently Asked Questions

Can the nurse bring me any medications?

No, all medications you receive must have a doctor’s order. The nurse will not give any over-the-counter medications because she is unsure how this will react will your current medications and lab values.

Will the nurse help with home health duties such as enteral feedings, changing dressings, wound care, blood glucose monitoring or assistance with activities of daily living?

No, the BV lesson is a focused session on teaching you how to take and interpret your vital signs.

Does someone have to be with me for the BV lesson?

No, you do not have to have someone with you for the BV lesson. However, it is recommended that someone is with you such as a family member, close friend, or home health nurse.

The vital signs that the nurse took are not the same as my vital signs in my doctor’s office.
The vital signs that the nurse took may not be exactly the same as the vital signs from another medical facility. This is expected. Some equipment have different readings. This is why we recommend you bring your BV kit with you to your doctor’s office. Compare your vital signs with your equipment with the vital signs at your doctor’s office. The Nurse who takes your vital signs at your doctor’s office will probably insist that they use their own equipment, but you can use your equipment to compare the numbers. This is how you become in charge of your own health.
Can two people share the same vital signs kit?

Yes, two people can share the same vital signs kit.

Can two people share the same thermometer?

Two people can use the same thermometer. Just clean the thermometer in between users. Clean the thermometer with soapy water or an alcohol pad. Be sure to dry the thermometer completely. A better option would be for each user to have their own thermometer. You can purchase an extra thermometer for $10.00

Can two people use the same blood pressure monitor?

Two people can use the same blood pressure monitor ONLY if they have approximately the same arm size. For example, if you have an extra-large arm, you need an extra-large blood pressure monitor. If you do not have the correct size blood pressure cuff, the readings will be inaccurate. You can purchase an extra blood pressure monitor for $55.00

I am a healthy person with no medical problems, do I need to know my baseline vital signs?

Absolutely! This is one of the main reasons why Baseline Vitals was created. You need to know your Baseline Vitals in case you ever “feel bad”, you can take your vital signs at home and determine if you are really sick.

Can I expect my doctor to call me about my vital signs if they are abnormal?

Baseline Vitals L.L.C. will make every attempt to communicate with your doctor’s office in reporting your vital signs. This does not mean that your provider is responsible for treating you based upon these numbers. We recommend that if you are concerned about your numbers, you make an appointment with your provider.

If my vital signs indicate that I need immediate medical attention such as medicine or a procedure, what will the Baseline Vitals nurse do?

If your vital signs indicate that you need immediate medical attention the BV nurse will call 911.
